John attended the Unv.. of Alabama on a debate scholarship. At BAMA, he was active in student government on campus (Student Senator and President of the Dorm Association). After graduating in 1980 with a BS in Marketing, he took a sales position with Procter & Gamble in Jacksonville, FL, where he met his wife, Margaret (married in 1981). John has been in consumer products sales management positions for 28 years with P&G, Frito-Lay, E&J Gallo Winery, and now is a National Sales Manager with Purafilter 2000 (air filter company), where he manages a national sales force of 180 people. John has lived in Tampa, FL since 1982 with his wife, Margaret. They have two children: a son, John Thomas Genter, who just graduated from GA Teach in December 2007, and a daughter, Kate, who is a Junior at Samford University in Birmingham. John is very active at the St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Tampa (Vestry member). Outside the Church, John has been a YMCA volunteer soccer and basketball coach for 13 years (YMCA Coach of the Year in 1998).
